Pete Herzog's blues opera "Steel Guitar" was a treat to record in our studio in front of a live audience. Please stay tuned for this double album to be released.
Vocals recorded on Neumann M149,
steel guitar recorded with Neumann KM184 at 12 fret, AT4050 on lower f hole and AKG 414 xls on tail piece area. Also electric pickup straight into pres and aphex 320a and 204 to round the bottom. Tubed preamps and the rest digital.

Don't know if you know this, but they're playing you down here in L.A. on K-Jazz 88.1 FM. EXCELLENT. Good to hear some straight blues, with beautiful, intricately-laid guitar tracks, without the frills. Just ordered the CD. Thanks for a moving piece of music, much appreciated.

Recording note: From Tom Hartkop

This recording was a live recording without any overdubbing. Microphones used. AKG C 414 XL2 on vocals, AKG C414 XLS at the 12th fret and either an AT 4041 or a Neumann TLM-103 at the soundhole/f hole end. I also had an electrical pickup in the guitars that was used for some of the solid base. Pete is the King of 1 take and print
performances. Pete used an old pre ww2 slide guitar and an old Gibson.
Recorded in our multiroom facility digitally.
